LOCKS

I am in dire need of some new hair. I have had the same hair - with and without bangs - pretty much for the past 6 years now. I'm lazy and don't like styling, let alone brushing my hair. I can't stand hair in my face so it has to be long enough to be pulled tied back or be short enough to be completely out of my eyes. The thing is I had dude hair in high school and a bob in college and the lesson I've learned is that I look bad with short hair, horrible in fact. But then long hair gets old and is too "pretty" unless you go for the ultra dirty scraggly look, at which point it looks "edgier" but results in a rat's nest/dread at the back of my neck. What to do, what to do....
Absolutely in love with the bottom photo that has been making the blog rounds lately. Her hair is perfection, as is Devon's similar but shorter hair in the photo above it. Love both but they're a bit similar to what I have now. Perhaps just a trim and lighten for summer? I'm a complete wuss when it comes to messing with the color of my hair. It's currently entirely my natural color and it's been that way for most of my life, minus the few times in high school and college I put in a singular Manic Panic streak here and there. Dying all of it seems like a lot work - I don't think I can commit to the root touch-up and maintenance. Again with the laziness. Maybe just lighten the ends? Meh........this is getting really jumbled.

Thoughts? What do you think I should do?

don't trim leave natural ends and get it balayaged!

Why not lighten the ends up a bit? It's pretty much no-maintinance and if you dislike it later on, you can always color it back to the original. Keep in mind you will be damaging your ends a little bit...

Long layers maybe? They won't look funky growing out and you won't need to style em either, unless the barber does a bad job... Or maybe just go for a new color :D

I badly need new hair too, except I'm broke, so... DIY bangs is about all I've been considering, heh.

I think you should get a trim and lighten the ends.

I'm in the exact same boat. Except I've never had bangs or a bob or dude hair. So I've pretty much had this hair all my life. I'm thinking of trying Abbey Lee's bangs.

Low maintenance + beachy look + highlights= Balayage

theres lots of places in LA that do this style. i think you will love it. its exactly how devon aoki has her hair.

I have a bob, so I cant really say how it would look with long hair, but I bleached the bottom three or so inches, and I love how it looks. A couple of people have told me I look like I'm in a bad 90s music video, but I really cant take that any way besides complimentary. And there is no upkeep, which is nice, and if you don't like it, you cut it off.

I need a new hair cut too! I'm sorry I can't be of much help, but I definitely feel your pain! I think I might dye my hair - highlights or something?

hehe, last pic shows my exact hairstyle! it's practically no maintenance, just wash, untangle, use some bumble & bumble surf spray throughout and let dry by its own.

lighten the ends, i'd suggest, and go for that gradient look.if you feel adventurous, dye the ends in a contrasting color.

Dude I wouldn't touch it! Your hair is seriously one of the reasons i love your blog! It suits you. Dont do balayage. So overdone. if anything i'd colour your center part some colour, a la louise gray http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_3agE_VmLTFE/Svsm3iL3MYI/AAAAAAAAAXc/MFaLLoAo5pA/s320/42234717.jpg

you should lighten the bottom with a nice copper colour, it would look simply lovely (: (or edgy if you do the whole bird nest thing)

i'de say put that airplane lookin thing on your hair....ahahahaha..but seriously...why not do what was hot like 10 years ago? Dip your long haired ends into dye and just have the ends dip dyed.Like a crazy color such as hot pink or bright blue or neon green. It's pretty sick.

keep the length and dye?? :)

lightening the ends is SO easy to do yourself, if you want to save some dough. I did in in about an hour by leaving bleach on for 20 minutes, rinsing it out then reapplying it lower down and continuing to do that..

Hmmm, I have no hair knowledge whatsoever, but maybe not-that-long (say above armpits) layers?

dont do anything! you cant rewind bad hair. your hair is already awesome.

You know, if you have a great natural color you shouldn't mess with it. That's just what i think... However, i think that a cut is definitely refreshing for summer. It'll feel so much lighter and definitely more conducive with the heat.

I think it's obvious that you get motorized helicopter hair.

Or just lighten the ends. Low maintenance and cut it off when you hate it.

oh ps, speaking of hair, did you ever model for bumble and bumble? i work at a shop that sells it and there's a photo there of a girl who looks exactly like you. discuss.

dye your tips! I think it would look SOOO good on you pretty lady :) I want to do it too but I don't think I can pull it off.

Try cutting off a few inches. Your hair is gorgeous just the way it is, but you could try "lightening" your load a little bit. It would be way faster to dry and it would still be really long. If you didn't want to dye the tips, dye some streaks on the underneath in the back or just behind your temple. A few streaks never hurts (and that way you won't see grow-out either).
